Speech of New Zealand

The longest river in New Zealand is Waikato River. The length is 425KM. The origin of this river is Mt Ruapehu. This river goes to Lake Taupo and outlet from this lake, and the river is through Hamilton City and reaches Port Waikato. The origin of the name of this river is from a team journey. The team‘s name is Tainui. They journeyed from Polynesia. When they arrived at the mouth of the river, the speed of water was fast. The Tainui called the speed “kato” and “wai” means “water” so this river is called “Waikto”. This site is very good to know more about Waikato River. In Japan, the longest river is “Shinano River”.
